Tinkering With Ideas #066: Here comes the sun

Hello, fellow tinkerer ๐Ÿ‘‹

Happy Wednesday. My kids are eagerly counting down the days left in the school year (five, including today), and then summer break begins.

If you'd like to follow the journey of Betty the Brain Tumor (yes, I named the tumor), you can read updates here.

1) Reflection:

My kids have attended the same summer camp since they were little, but this year will be a bit different. My oldest has aged out of the camp, and my middle child has opted only to attend camp for a few weeks this summer, instead of every week. It will be weird having them home during the day (I told them it's not going to be a screen time free-for-all, lol).

"Kids getting older" is on parents' minds a lot, but this summer hits differently in a lot of ways. Not only do I have two kids who are not attending summer camp, but my oldest is wrapping up driver's ed and will take their driving test in the fall.

So I want to appreciate this summer with two kids home. My oldest has agreed to do some work for my business (paid!), so we'll be collaborating behind the scenes.

2) Product

One of my goals at the start of the new year was to drink more water. And I met that goal โ€” now drinking close to a gallon of water per day.

I started adding electrolytes to my water, first with the powder kind. But powder electrolytes are usually very sweet and I found that I was craving the flavor.

So I switched to Buoy liquid electrolyte drops. They're (practically) flavorless. I use the Hydration Drops, but there are also drops for energy, brain health, digestion, and more.

3) Tip

I'm a very pale person and get sunburns easily. On top of that, I have very sensitive skin that reacts to, well, everything.

Many years ago, I started paying more attention to sunscreen ingredients in the U.S., but I have never found a sunscreen I really love. The Wirecutter Podcast published an episode called Sunscreen Demystified! and I found it really helpful. It talks about different types of sunscreen (what words like "mineral" and "broad spectrum" mean) and has some recommendations.

Hello, fellow tinkerer ๐Ÿ‘‹ Happy Wednesday. I'm now four weeks post brain surgery. I still have some facial paralysis on the left side and double vision. I saw the neurosurgeon earlier this week, and he said, considering all the potential outcomes of the surgery, I'm doing remarkably well. Time (and physical therapy) will help me heal. Thank you to everyone who has sent me messages. I've read them all, even if I haven't replied (I get tired very easily, so I spend very little of my day at the...

Hello, fellow tinkerer ๐Ÿ‘‹ This is the first in a series of newsletter takeovers while I recover from brain surgery. First up is Liam Carnahan. I attended a webinar Liam hosted a few months ago and then he attended one of mine. I was supposed to host a workshop for his community but then, brain tumor. I was thrilled that Liam reached out and offered to write something for my newsletter. Some quick facts about Liam: He's the co-host of FLX: Freelance Success, a community for freelancers. He's an...
