Tinkering With Ideas #066: Here comes the sun

Hello, fellow tinkerer ๐Ÿ‘‹

Happy Wednesday. My kids are eagerly counting down the days left in the school year (five, including today), and then summer break begins.

1) Reflection:

My kids have attended the same summer camp since they were little, but this year will be a bit different. My oldest has aged out of the camp, and my middle child has opted only to attend camp for a few weeks this summer, instead of every week. It will be weird having them home during the day (I told them it's not going to be a screen time free-for-all, lol).

"Kids getting older" is on parents' minds a lot, but this summer hits differently in a lot of ways. Not only do I have two kids who are not attending summer camp, but my oldest is wrapping up driver's ed and will take their driving test in the fall.

So I want to appreciate this summer with two kids home. My oldest has agreed to do some work for my business (paid!), so we'll be collaborating behind the scenes.

2) Product

One of my goals at the start of the new year was to drink more water. And I met that goal โ€” now drinking close to a gallon of water per day.

I started adding electrolytes to my water, first with the powder kind. But powder electrolytes are usually very sweet and I found that I was craving the flavor.

So I switched to Buoy liquid electrolyte drops. They're (practically) flavorless. I use the Hydration Drops, but there are also drops for energy, brain health, digestion, and more.

3) Tip

I'm a very pale person and get sunburns easily. On top of that, I have very sensitive skin that reacts to, well, everything.

Many years ago, I started paying more attention to sunscreen ingredients in the U.S., but I have never found a sunscreen I really love. The Wirecutter Podcast published an episode called Sunscreen Demystified! and I found it really helpful. It talks about different types of sunscreen (what words like "mineral" and "broad spectrum" mean) and has some recommendations.

Hello, fellow tinkerer ๐Ÿ‘‹ Happy Wednesday. I'm writing this from the airport in Barcelona, waiting for my flight back to the U.S. My first trip to Europe (first of many, I hope), and my first long trip away from my family. 1) Reflection: When I booked this trip, I didn't realize that I'd be in Spain for Mother's Day. By that point, I'd been gone for several days, and I missed my family like crazy. I think solo trips are important โ€” we all need some time alone โ€” but I also think, for me, I need...

Hello, fellow tinkerer ๐Ÿ‘‹ Happy Wednesday. I am headed to Spain in 5 days and am so excited. It will be my first trip to Europe. I am a master planner, but my travel companion (a longtime friend) is much more chill. So we'll see if I can absorb her "go with the flow" attitude. If you've got any travel tips for long flights โ€” please reply and let me know!! 1) Reflection: I was listening to a podcast last week, and it mentioned an app that might be a good replacement for an app I'm currently...

Hello, fellow tinkerer ๐Ÿ‘‹ Happy Wednesday. If you're located in the U.S., you've survived the horror known as the Tax Filing Deadline. (Survived, while possibly not unscathed...) If you're outside of the U.S. let me paint a picture: My tax return last year was 43 pages long. Most Americans file and just pray they're doing it correctly because tax returns are so complex. It's a ghastly system. 1) Reflection: Have you heard of vibe coding at all? Vibe coding uses AI and lets people build apps โ€”...
