๐Ÿ’ก Tinkering With Ideas #063: In the kitchen

Hello, fellow tinkerer ๐Ÿ‘‹

Happy Wednesday. If you're located in the U.S., you've survived the horror known as the Tax Filing Deadline. (Survived, while possibly not unscathed...)

If you're outside of the U.S. let me paint a picture: My tax return last year was 43 pages long. Most Americans file and just pray they're doing it correctly because tax returns are so complex. It's a ghastly system.

1) Reflection:

Have you heard of vibe coding at all? Vibe coding uses AI and lets people build apps โ€” even without coding experience. I vibe coded my way through a meal-planning app for my family, specific to our needs and dietary preferences. I won't be launching in the App Store, but it was an interesting project! You can read more about my experience here.

2) Tip

My family recently informed me that they're sick of the food we eat for dinner. We've subscribed to meal kits for years, and they want to try some new things. However, as the person who shops for groceries, this adds a lot to my mental load to plan meals and figure out what we need.

So, after a few stressful weeks of not knowing what to cook, I made everyone help. In our family of five, everyone had to find five recipes for the upcoming month, keeping in mind everyone's dietary preferences and emphasis on ease of cooking. My two older kids searched the internet, while my husband and 7-year-old chose from meals we've eaten at home before. In about an hour, I had an entire month of receipes added to the calendar.

3) Product

Speaking of the kitchen, a few times in my business, I've hit points where I'm not sure what to do next. I have too many ideas; not enough time. Or I'm not sure which next steps make the most sense.

If this has happened to you, you should check out The Kitchen Sink Clog Test. This quick survey will help you figure out exactly what's slowing you down and provide a personalized recipe to squash that bottleneck.

Hello, fellow tinkerer ๐Ÿ‘‹ Happy Wednesday. I'm now four weeks post brain surgery. I still have some facial paralysis on the left side and double vision. I saw the neurosurgeon earlier this week, and he said, considering all the potential outcomes of the surgery, I'm doing remarkably well. Time (and physical therapy) will help me heal. Thank you to everyone who has sent me messages. I've read them all, even if I haven't replied (I get tired very easily, so I spend very little of my day at the...

Hello, fellow tinkerer ๐Ÿ‘‹ This is the first in a series of newsletter takeovers while I recover from brain surgery. First up is Liam Carnahan. I attended a webinar Liam hosted a few months ago and then he attended one of mine. I was supposed to host a workshop for his community but then, brain tumor. I was thrilled that Liam reached out and offered to write something for my newsletter. Some quick facts about Liam: He's the co-host of FLX: Freelance Success, a community for freelancers. He's an...

Hello, fellow tinkerer ๐Ÿ‘‹ Happy Wednesday. As you're reading this, I'm recovering from brain surgery. This email was pre-scheduled, and I'll send out an update once I'm able to. If you'd like to follow the journey of Betty the Brain Tumor (yes, I named the tumor), you can read updates here. 1) Reflection: After I announced my brain tumor, I've been overwhelmed and humbled by messages from people and offers to help. A person who will be invaluable to my writing during recovery is Elisa...
